Palampur (Himachal Pradesh), February 15: A somber note resonates as Kamal Kant Batra, mother of legendary Kargil war hero Captain Vikram Batra, breathed her last in Himachal Pradesh at the age of 77. The news of her demise has left the nation mourning, and tributes are pouring in for the family.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed his condolences, stating, "Sad news was received about the demise of Mrs. Kamalkant Batra, mother of martyr Captain Vikram Batra. We pray to God to grant Mata Ji a place at His feet and give strength to the bereaved family to bear the immense sorrow. Om Shanti!"

Kamal Kant Batra, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, had contested the Lok Sabha elections from Hamipur, Himachal Pradesh, in 2014, but lost to BJP's Anurag Singh Thakur. She later resigned from the AAP, citing dissatisfaction with the party's organisational structure.

The legacy of Captain Vikram Batra, who sacrificed his life at the age of 24 during the Kargil war on July 7, 1999, continues to inspire the nation. Known as "Sher Shah" in his regiment, Captain Vikram Batra's fearless spirit left an indelible mark on the military history of India.
