Kargil war veteran attacked with iron rod by parking staff in Gurugram, received death threats

PTC News Desk: A Kargil War veteran suffered serious head injuries and a fractured elbow after a parking attendant at Magnum Global Park in Gurugram allegedly attacked him with an iron rod. The accused also allegedly threatened to kill him, according to a police complaint filed by retired Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta.
Gupta, who was part of the Indian Air Force’s Operation Safed Sagar during the 1999 Kargil War, has also alleged that the police failed to assist him and that the hospital prepared an incorrect medical report.
Dispute over parking
Gupta said he had gone to Gonzo restaurant at Magnum Global Park for a family dinner on Thursday night. At around 8 pm, he dropped his family at the restaurant and went to park his car.
According to his complaint, parking staff kept directing him between the valet service, basement and multilevel parking before eventually refusing to park the vehicle.
Gupta alleged that when he tried to reverse his car, one of the parking attendants struck the windshield with an iron rod, apparently trying to break it. He also alleged that the attendant issued death threats.
He said security guards and other parking staff present at the location did not intervene. Gupta also claimed that he called the police helpline, but no police personnel arrived for another 30 minutes.
He said a chef eventually stepped in and intervened, which prevented the situation from becoming more serious.
Gupta suffered serious injuries to his head and elbow and was taken to Medanta Hospital in an ambulance. He underwent surgery in which plates were used to repair and stabilise the injured elbow bone.
“The attack was sudden and unprovoked. I could not even defend myself,” Gupta said in his complaint.
He further alleged that the hospital’s medico-legal case (MLC) report was incorrect as it did not mention the bleeding from his head or his elbow injury.
“I am not getting any support from the police,” he alleged.
Demands FIR and strict action
Gupta has sought strict action against the accused and demanded that an FIR be registered for attempted murder and causing grievous hurt.
Police are yet to establish the full circumstances of the alleged assault.
