Chandigarh BJP office blast: Grenade attack suspected, CCTV footage shows suspects on bike
A loud explosion-like sound was reported outside the BJP office in Chandigarh’s Sector 37, triggering panic. Police and fire brigade teams rushed to the spot
Chandigarh BJP office blast: A blast occurred outside the Punjab headquarters of the BJP in Chandigarh on Wednesday evening around 5 pm, triggering panic in the area and leading to a massive security response.
According to initial reports, the explosion caused significant damage to vehicles parked near the site, with several car windows shattered due to the impact. The wall of the BJP office also bore 70 to 80 marks resembling shrapnel hits, indicating the possible use of an explosive device.
A video that has surfaced on social media reportedly shows a man pulling the pin of what appears to be a grenade and throwing it before fleeing the scene. The sound of a blast can also be heard in the footage. Authorities are currently verifying the authenticity of the video, which is being widely claimed to be linked to the attack on the BJP office.
Soon after the incident, multiple teams from the Chandigarh Police rushed to the spot. Units from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), bomb disposal squad, dog squad, and forensic experts have been deployed to examine the site thoroughly. Officials confirmed that fragments of the explosive device have been collected for detailed analysis.
Teams from the Indian Army and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) also visited the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
CCTV footage from the area has revealed the presence of two suspects who were seen moving around the BJP office on a motorcycle before and after the blast. A manhunt has been launched to trace the suspects. Meanwhile, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police has also joined the probe.
Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur confirmed the incident and said a detailed investigation is underway. “A blast has occurred at the BJP Punjab office. At this stage, it is not possible to ascertain who carried out the attack, the motive behind it, or the nature of the explosive used,” she stated.
Security in the surrounding areas has been tightened. Further updates are awaited.
