Over 10 dead, several critically injured brought to LNJP Hospital
PTC News Desk: A powerful explosion in a car near Gate No. 1 of Delhi’s Red Fort (Lal Qila) Metro Station on Monday evening killed at least eight people and injured 24 others, creating panic in the high-security zone and leading to a citywide alert.
The Delhi Fire Department received a call about the blast around 6:55 pm and quickly dispatched seven fire tenders and 15 CAT ambulances to the site. The explosion was so intense that it set three to four nearby vehicles on fire, shattered streetlights, and damaged parked cars. All fires were later brought under control.
Senior officers from the Delhi Police Special Cell, including the DCP, arrived at the scene to oversee the investigation. The exact cause of the explosion is still being probed, but it occurred just hours after police uncovered an interstate terror module connected to banned organisations and seized nearly 2,900 kg of suspected ammonium nitrate — a substance commonly used in explosives. Officials had warned that the group planned large-scale attacks in Delhi using improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
In the aftermath, high alerts were issued in Kolkata and Noida. Police across both cities have ramped up security, setting up checkpoints in crowded areas. In Noida’s busy Sector 18, police teams are stopping and inspecting suspicious vehicles and individuals as part of heightened security measures.
