Swachh Survekshan Award 2023: Chandigarh fell short of making the top ten in the national Swachh Survekshan Award 2023, ranking even lower than Delhi. However, the Union Territory improved its ranking to eleventh.
Last year, Chandigarh ranked 12th in the national Swachh Survekshan Award.
Aside from being ranked 11th in the nation for cleanliness, Chandigarh was also named the best Safaimitra Surakshit Seher.
The 2023 Swachh Survekshan Award involved 4,477 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the country. This time, the Ministry kept a total of 9500 points for all ULBs, which were divided into four segments: Service Level Progress, Garbage Free City, Open Defecation Free, and Citizen Voice, with 4830, 1375, 1125, and 2170 points, respectively.
Chandigarh received excellent scores in three categories of the competition but received lower marks in the Garbage Free City component. Chandigarh received 4645.3 points in the Service Level Progress segment, 1125 points in the Open Defecation Free component, 2045.8 points in the Citizen Voice segment, and 725 points in the Garbage Free City category.
Swachh Survekshan Award 2023
Surat in Gujarat and Indore in Madhya Pradesh were jointly named the country's cleanest cities. Navi Mumbai secured the third position.
Indore has been named the cleanest city for the seventh time in a row.
Greater Visakhapatnam, Bhopal, Vijayawada, New Delhi, Tirupati, Greater Hyderabad, and Pune round out the top ten cleanest cities with a population of more than one lakh.
