Haryana tightens rules for gun licence holders, mandatory reporting of fired rounds within 30 days
PTC Web Desk: The Haryana Home Department has issued stringent new guidelines for arms licence holders, making it mandatory to report any firing from a licensed weapon within 30 days to the licensing authority concerned.
Under the new directives, licence holders will have to submit a written report detailing when and where the firearm was used, the reason behind the firing and the total number of rounds discharged. Authorities have also made it compulsory to deposit spent cartridges with the department after firing.
In cases where empty cartridges are unavailable, the licence holder will be required to provide a valid written explanation for their absence.
The move is being seen as a significant step towards strengthening monitoring mechanisms for licensed firearms and curbing their misuse. Officials believe the new system will help maintain a proper database of firearm usage and discourage illegal practices such as celebratory firing during weddings and public events.
It is learnt that all reports related to firearm usage would now be systematically recorded and maintained in a dedicated database. Any negligence in reporting firearm use, or submission of an unsatisfactory explanation, could directly affect the renewal of the arms licence.
Police officials have urged all licence holders to strictly comply with the new regulations and ensure timely submission of accurate information regarding the use of licensed weapons to help maintain law and order in the state.
