PTC News Desk: A three-year-old boy undergoing treatment for blood cancer died at AIIMS Bhopal after a nurse allegedly injected formalin into his body instead of medicine. The chemical, toxic for humans, is used to preserve biopsy samples, tissues and bodies.
The incident took place in December 2025. A criminal case has been filed in connection with the fatal mistake.
Sarthak Yadav, a child from a village in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district, was suffering from leukemia and was admitted to AIIMS Bhopal on December 15, 2025, after his health worsened.
According to a hospital inquiry report, a serious mistake happened during his treatment on the morning of December 17. The child's IV line had become blocked, and while trying to clear it, nursing officer Madhubala Sharma allegedly injected a substance from a syringe labeled "F" without properly checking what it contained.
Sarthak's family claimed that his father repeatedly told the medical staff that the syringe did not contain the medicine prescribed for his son. However, they allege that his warnings were ignored and that he was told to stay quiet.
Shortly after the injection, Sarthak's condition deteriorated rapidly. He lost consciousness and was immediately shifted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) for emergency treatment.
