UP shocker: Minor sexually assaulted in Kanpur; YouTuber arrested, cop absconding
Police have arrested a local YouTuber in connection with the crime, while a police sub-inspector named in the case remains absconding
PTC Web Desk: A disturbing case has emerged from the Sachendi area of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, where a 14-year-old girl was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted by multiple persons. The police have arrested a local YouTuber in connection with the crime, while a police sub-inspector named in the case remains absconding.
Given the gravity of the allegations, senior police officials have initiated strict administrative action. Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal has removed Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Dinesh Chandra Tripathi from his post and suspended Sachendi Station House Officer (SHO) Vikram Singh for alleged negligence and distortion of facts during the initial handling of the case.
According to police, the victim, a Class 7 drop-out, was allegedly abducted late Monday night in a Mahindra Scorpio. She was reportedly taken to a secluded area near a railway track, where she was sexually assaulted for nearly two hours. The girl was later left outside her home in an unconscious condition.
The Police Commissioner said the FIR was registered based on the victim’s statement, naming sub-inspector Amit Kumar Maurya and YouTuber Shivbaran Yadav as the accused. While Yadav has been taken into custody, multiple teams have been formed to trace and arrest Maurya, who is currently on the run.
Investigators confirmed that the SUV used in the crime belongs to Maurya and has been seized. Sources said Maurya is posted at Bithoor police station but was present in the Sachendi area at the time of the incident.
The victim’s family has alleged that when they initially approached the police to lodge a complaint and mentioned the involvement of a policeman, they were turned away. The girl’s brother further claimed that the police seized her mobile phone and did not allow her to return home until her statement was recorded before a court.
SHO Vikram Singh was suspended for failing to invoke provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at the initial stage and for allegedly misrepresenting facts in official records.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
