541 Sikh pilgrims depart for Pakistan from Amritsar to visit historic gurdwaras on Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom day
According to officials, passports of 561 pilgrims were submitted for visas, out of which 541 were granted visas by the Pakistan High Commission.
PTC News Desk: On the martyrdom anniversary of the Fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, a special group of Sikh pilgrims departed today under the leadership of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to visit historic Sikh shrines in Pakistan.
According to officials, passports of 561 pilgrims were submitted for visas, out of which 541 were granted visas by the Pakistan High Commission. However, visa applications of 20 pilgrims were not approved.
Secretary of the SGPC's Dharam Prachar Committee, Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, said that the main religious events commemorating Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom will be held in Pakistan on June 18. After paying obeisance at various historic gurdwaras, the pilgrims will participate in these events and return to India on June 19.
The delegation is being led by SGPC member Bhupinder Singh Bhalwan, while Gurmeet Singh Bahu has been appointed as the deputy leader. During the pilgrimage, devotees will visit and offer prayers at historic Sikh shrines, including Gurdwara Janam Asthan Nankana Sahib, Gurdwara Panja Sahib, and Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur, among others.
