Amritpal still absconding: Security tightened in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur; Marnaian village sealed

Hoshiarpur, March 30: After ‘Waris Punjab de’ chief Amritpal Singh video surfaced internet on March 29 in which he claimed that his arrest was in the “hand of the almighty” and he is not being afraid of being arrested, Punjab Police launched a massive search operation in a Hoshiarpur village and many adjoining areas following inputs that radical preacher Amritpal Singh and his aides could be hiding somewhere in Punjab. 

A massive amount of barricades and checkposts have been raised to nab the suspects.

In the major update, heavy security has been deployed in Marnaian village in Hoshiarpur and the area has been sealed. 

Earlier, on Wednesday an abandoned vehicle was found near Gurdwara Bhai Chanchal Singh in Marnaian village, in Nawanshahr. A huge police team chased the suspected car from Phagwara after that fugitive Amritpal Singh and his aide could be travelling in that vehicle, sources said. 

The vehicle was left abandoned near Gurdwara Bhai Chanchal Singh in Marnaian village and they fled away, the villagers said.


Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh’s put out a live video on Wednesday saying that government action against him “was not about his arrest but an attack on the Sikh community”.

In the live video Amritpal thanked Sikh community for supporting and appealed to join ‘Sarbat Khalsa’ on the occasion of Baisakhi 2023. He urged Akal Takht Jathedar to call Sarbat Khalsa on Baisakhi.

He further said, "The government of Punjab made a hue and cry of the situation and a tensed environment all over the state. The Punjab police along with government suspended the mobile internet and SMS services and also imposed NSA on his aides. Many of my comrades have been sent to Assam. That's why I appeal to all Sikhs to assemble on the occasion of Baisakhi."
