Chandigarh, May 23: In a major breakthrough in the 2015 Bargari sacrilege cases, main conspirator and Dera Sacha Sauda national committee member Sandeep Bareta has been detained at Bangalore airport, sources informed on Tuesday.

Notably, Sandeep Bareta along with two others -Pardeep Kaler and Harsh Dhuri — were designated as proclaimed offenders (POs) in the Bargari sacrilege case by the Faridkot court.

In a tweet, Punjab Police said that a police party had been dispatched to bring the accused before a court and seek police remand for custodial interrogation.

The first of the three sacrilege cases was the theft of the Guru Granth Sahib from the Gurdwara Sahib at Burj Jawahar Singh Wala on June 1, 2015. Then, on September 25, two derogatory posters about the Sikh religion, Sikh preachers, and the Guru Granth Sahib were discovered pasted outside Dhodha Peer Gate at Burj Jawahar Singh Wala. The third case occurred on October 12, when pages of the Guru Granth Sahib were discovered strewn outside the Bargari gurdwara and in the local streets.
