No regret over the killing': Gangster Goldy Brar claims responsibility for Moosewala's murder in BBC documentary | Key revelations
PTC Web Desk: In a sensational revelation aired in a BBC documentary released on June 11 — the birth anniversary of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala — gangster Goldy Brar, currently based abroad, has claimed responsibility for orchestrating Moosewala’s murder. In a detailed interview featured in the documentary, Brar stated that Moosewala's actions, driven by arrogance and repeated defiance, left them with no other option.
“Sidhu Moosewala acted out of ego and made unforgivable mistakes,” Goldy Brar asserted during the interview. “He promoted our enemies despite multiple warnings. Lawrence and others were upset with him. We tried to make him understand, but he refused to comply.”
The documentary features audio clips attributed to Brar, reportedly sourced through a Canadian journalist. The release of the documentary has sparked controversy, with Sidhu Moosewala’s father, Balkaur Singh, having already raised objections and sought legal intervention to halt its distribution.
Key revelations from Goldy Brar’s Interview:
Goldy Brar stated that Moosewala had been explicitly told not to perform at a kabaddi tournament organised by their rivals. Despite the warning, Moosewala went ahead with the event, allegedly at the request of Bambiha gang member Mandeep Dhaliwal. “He performed there, thereby promoting our enemies,” Brar said.
This incident is said to have triggered tensions between Moosewala and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Brar claims that after the performance, Moosewala received threats warning that he would not be spared.
According to Brar, Moosewala was in direct contact with Lawrence Bishnoi and was allegedly attempting to curry favour with him. “I don’t know who introduced Sidhu to Lawrence, and I never asked. But Sidhu was constantly messaging him ‘good morning’ and ‘good night’—he was trying hard to win him over,” Brar revealed.
Goldy Brar claimed that Moosewala’s ego led him to make critical mistakes that ultimately cost him his life. “He had become arrogant. There came a point where it was either us or him. There was no room left for dialogue. He had to face the consequences of his actions,” Brar said.
Goldy Brar also connected Moosewala to the murder of student leader Vicky Middukhera, who was gunned down in Mohali in August 2021. “Vicky had helped resolve tensions between Lawrence and Sidhu. But after his murder — allegedly involving Sidhu’s close aide Shaganpreet Singh — we decided to retaliate,” said Brar.
Brar claimed that Moosewala’s association with political figures and his alleged use of influence and resources to assist rival gangs was no secret. “The police, the media, everyone knew what he was doing. He should have faced trial and gone to jail. But no one listened to us. That’s why we targeted him,” he stated.
When asked whether he regretted taking the law into his own hands, Brar remained unrepentant. “There is no such thing as justice — only the powerful get it. People like us never do. I did what I had to do for my brother. I don’t feel any remorse.”
The documentary has intensified the debate over Moosewala’s murder and the broader nexus of crime, politics, and celebrity in Punjab. While law enforcement agencies continue to probe the case, this latest claim by Goldy Brar has added a fresh — and deeply disturbing — layer to an already complex and high-profile investigation.
