PTC News Desk: A video allegedly showing a traffic policeman accepting a bribe in Mohali has gone viral on social media. The purported video, said to be from Zirakpur, shows that the money was being taken in exchange of waiving challan
In the viral clip, a youth can be seen speaking to an ASI standing outside a traffic booth. During the conversation, the youth initially offers ₹500, but the ASI is allegedly heard demanding a higher amount. He then takes money from another person standing nearby and hands it over to the ASI.
The video also purportedly captures the requesting the officer not to issue a challan and to delete the photograph that had been taken. In response, the ASI is heard assuring him that no challan would be issued.
However, ASI Sohan Singh denied the allegations, claiming the video had been recorded and presented in a misleading manner. According to him, no money was accepted and no illegal transaction took place.
The ASI said that he was offered money but he refused to accept it and stated that the youth was let off without issuance of a challan.
Reacting to the controversy, Mohali SP Traffic Navneet Singh Mahal said that the video had not yet reached him. He added that if the footage reveals any wrongdoing, the matter will be brought to the notice of the Mohali SSP and appropriate action will be taken as per rules.
