Punjab Cabinet okays recruitment of 1,800 constables, 300 sub-inspectors every year

Chandigarh, December 12: Amid criticism over "deteriorating" law and order in the state, the Punjab Cabinet, led by CM Bhagwant Mann, on Monday announced to recruit 1,800 constables and 300 sub-inspectors in the Punjab Police every year. 

The decision seems to be driven by "criticism" the Punjab Government, led by Bhagwant Mann, has been facing over recent killings and that too of persons having police protection. A police station in Tarn Taran was also attacked with an RPG two days ago.


Addressing mediapersons after the Cabinet meeting, Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said nod to the schedule for the annual recruitment in the Punjab Police had been given by the Council of Ministers.

As per informatiom, the recruitment process would start in January. There would be written exams in May and June, followed by physical tests to be conducted between September 15-30 each year. 



He said various posts of NCC had also been lying vacant, therefore it had been decided to fill 203 posts at the earliest. Besides, 710 posts of revenue patwaris would also be filled.

At the Cabinet, it was decided to recover Rs 186 crore from anyone who is using water for irrigation for other uses. It was also agreed upon extending the timeline given to crusher units in the state for submitting their security deposit.
