This is the second time that the Punjab government has declined parole to the jailed MP. So far, Amritpal has not attended a single session of Parliament.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court on November 21,ordered the Punjab government to make a decision within one week on Amritpal’s request for temporary release so he can attend the winter session of Parliament.
In his petition, filed under Section 15 of the National Security Act (NSA)—which allows authorities to grant parole in special cases—Amritpal asked for temporary relief from jail to take part in the Parliament session scheduled from December 1 to 15. He argued that Parliament is a constitutional institution, and as the elected MP from Khadoor Sahib, he has the right to participate in its proceedings.
