Mohali District Courts get bomb threat via email; security tightened at Mohali, Derabassi and Kharar complexes
Mohali, Derabassi and Kharar district courts received a bomb threat via email on June ; public entry restricted from June 3–5; this is the third such threat against Mohali courts, with no arrests made in previous cases
Bomb threat: A threatening email warning of a bomb blast at district courts sent the entire Mohali judicial administration into a state of high alert on Wednesday. The email targeted all three court complexes in the district, Mohali, Derabassi, and Kharar, triggering an immediate security response and restrictions on public access from June 3 to June 5.
In response to the threat, strict entry restrictions were placed across all three court complexes. Only accused persons, litigants and government staff are being permitted inside the premises during this period. General public have been barred from entering until the security situation is fully assessed.
Entry to the Mohali court complex was completely suspended since morning. The Bomb Disposal Squad and the Anti-Sabotage Team conducted a thorough sweep of the entire campus before any resumption was permitted.
The Bomb Disposal Squad and Anti-Sabotage Team carried out a meticulous scan and sanitisation of the Mohali court campus from early morning. Following a thorough inspection, the police administration declared the building safe, and official court proceedings were allowed to resume only after noon.
Judicial officers have issued directives to their Personal Security Officers (PSOs) and subordinate court staff to remain on heightened alert. Personnel have been specifically instructed to keep a sharp watch for any suspicious objects or movements within and around the court premises.
What makes this incident more alarming is that it is the third time courts in the Mohali district have received bomb threats of this nature. In both previous cases, FIRs were registered against unidentified individuals, but no suspects have been apprehended. The repeated targeting of judicial premises, combined with the absence of any concrete long-term security measures by the government, has drawn sharp criticism and raised serious concerns about the adequacy of the current security framework in place for Punjab's court complexes.
