Akali Dal leaders lash out at Mann government
Senior SAD leader Parambans Singh Bunty Romana strongly criticised the Mann government outside the DGP office, alleging political vendetta.
He said: “The Mann government is currently rattled. Sukhbir Singh Badal is being deliberately targeted. The Aam Aadmi Party is scared of the growing strength of the Shiromani Akali Dal. Akalis have always stood by the people of Punjab in difficult times. People are now extending their support to the Shiromani Akali Dal.”
Meanwhile, Charanjit Singh Willi, Chandigarh unit president of the Shiromani Akali Dal, also issued a strong statement.
He said: “If they want to falsely implicate our president, he himself has reached here today. This is a warning to CM Mann to refrain from such actions. A permanent protest is being staged at the DGP office, and we are fully prepared.”
PTC Web Desk: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), led by its president Sukhbir Singh Badal, has launched a sit-in protest at the Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) office in Sector 9, Chandigarh, alleging harassment of party workers by the police in connection with the 328 saroop cases.
The entire SAD core committee, under Sukhbir Singh Badal’s leadership, reached the DGP office in the afternoon to register their protest. Simultaneously, the party issued directions to Youth Akali Dal leaders from Mohali, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib districts to immediately assemble at the DGP office, signalling preparations for an intensified protest.
Addressing the issue, Sukhbir Singh Badal accused the police of targeting and harassing Akali workers without clarity in the investigation related to the 328 missing saroop case. He told the DGP that if any legal action was to be taken, it should be directed against him instead of party workers.
“If a case has to be registered, do it against me. Do not harass my party workers. Until the police clarifies its stand, the entire Akali Dal leadership will remain here,” Sukhbir Singh Badal said.
The SAD leadership has been consistently raising concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab.
Earlier in the day, the SAD core committee held a meeting at the party’s Chandigarh office under the chairmanship of Sukhbir Singh Badal. Senior leaders, including Bikram Singh Majithia and Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, were present. The meeting was significant as it was the first core committee meeting after Majithia’s release from jail on bail on February 3.
During the meeting, the party resolved to strengthen organisational unity, with Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Singh Majithia tasked with reaching out to disgruntled leaders. The leadership also deliberated on Punjab’s current political situation and chalked out strategies for the party’s future course.
