A bond of Rs 2 lakh has been furnished after Mohali court rejected stringent conditions posed by the Punjab government including his entrance into the Punjab territory and articulation on social media. The district court cited Article 19 of the Indian constitution dismissing the conditions.

Barricading is being put in place outside Nabha Jail ahead of the release of Bikram Singh Majithia today. Speaking to PTC News, Patiala SP Jasbir Singh said the barricading has been carried out strictly as per the jail administration’s instructions, keeping security in mind. He added that no Akali worker is being stopped from going near the jail.
On the other hand, Shiromani Akali Dal constituency in-charge Makhan Singh Lalka and other leaders alleged that the police have resorted to high-handedness even before Majithia steps out of the jail. They claimed they are being stopped but said they will not be deterred.
Chief spokesperson of Akali Dal Adv Arshdeep Singh Kler slammed Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for questioning honourable Supreme Court's order granting bail to SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia. "CM Mann’s tweet on the bail granted to Bikram Singh Majithia questions the Supreme Court’s decision, which is tantamount to challenging the Constitution of India and the country’s sacred institutions. The Chief Minister’s tweet, it said, reflects his frustration arising from the growing public anger against him," said Arshdeep Singh Kler.

Punjab police have significantly heightened security with deployment of several teams and intensified barricading ahead of Majithia's release. Meanwhile workers of the Akali Dal have been instructed not to gather outside the Nabha jail.

The release of senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia has been postponed till February 3. The Supreme Court on Monday granted major relief to the Akali leader by allowing him bail in a disproportionate assets case. Following the court’s order, Majithia’s lawyers began preparations to secure his release from Nabha Jail.
Advocate Arshdeep Singh Kaler also reached the Mohali court to obtain a copy of the Supreme Court’s order. However, since the order had not yet been uploaded, the release was deferred till tomorrow.
Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar slammed Punjab government in Bikram Singh Majithia case, asserting that the credibility of the police has been completely eroded. Jakhar added that not a single case filed by the Mann government has stood up so far. He further alleged that after implicating its own minister, the Chief Minister himself went on to give a clean chit.
SAD spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler reached Mohali court to submit the bail order of Bikram Singh Majithia issued by the Supreme Court. Majithia's releasing order will be issued shortly by the Mohali court.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has welcomed the decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court to grant bail to former Cabinet Minister S. Bikram Singh Majithia. Advocate Dhami said that society has always had faith in the judiciary and that every individual looks to the courts for justice. He added that this decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the case of S. Bikram Singh Majithia is a positive one, and it will further strengthen trust in an impartial judicial system.”

The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia in disproportionate assets case. While pronouncing the verdict, the top court rebuked Punjab government questioning their intent to keep Majithia inside the jail.
“Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, and in particular the fact that the petitioner was granted bail in the earlier NDPS matter in 2022, against which the SLP filed by the state was dismissed by this court, and further that the petitioner has already been in custody for the last seven months and the police report under Section 173(2) has already been filed, further considering that the DA case relates to the check period from 2007-2017, and the FIR was lodged in 2023 under the PC Act, we are inclined to grant him bail,” it said.
PTC Web Desk: The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to former Punjab minister and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia, who has been lodged in Nabha Jail, Patiala, since his arrest in June last year by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in connection with the disproportionate assets case. Details of the bail conditions have not yet been disclosed.
Bikram Singh Majithia, who is the brother-in-law of former Punjab Chief Minister and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, was represented by Senior Advocate Gaurav Aggarwal, who highlighted a “grave threat” to his client’s life. Aggarwal relied on a state intelligence report dated January 3, which reportedly acknowledged the existence of the threat.
The Bench, comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, considered the submissions and granted bail, allowing Majithia to be released from custody while the investigation continues.
"Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, and in particular the fact that the petitioner was granted bail in the earlier NDPS matter in 2022, against which the SLP filed by the state was dismissed by this court in 2025, and further the petitioner has already been in custody for the last 7 months, and the police report under Section 173(2) has already been filed, further the fact that the disproportionate assets case relates to the check period from 2007-2017, and the FIR has been lodged in 2025 under PC Act, we are inclined to grant bail," the court ordered.
The Supreme Court’s order marks a significant development in the ongoing high-profile case that has seen multiple arrests and a lengthy chargesheet filed against Majithia and associates.
It also comes just a couple of hours after Dera Beas chief Gurinder Singh Dhillon also came out in support of Majithia. After meeting him in the Nabha jail today, the dera chief stated that the case against Majithia was false and baseless.
Notably, former Punjab minister and SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia has been lodged in Nabha Jail since June 2025.
Majithia, a three-time MLA, was arrested following raids at his residence in Amritsar and 25 other locations. During the raids, the Vigilance Bureau seized digital devices, property documents and financial records linked to the case.
After his arrest, Majithia was sent on seven-day police remand, which was later extended by four more days, before being placed under judicial custody on July 6, 2025. Since then, he has been serving time in Nabha Jail.
The case has seen two arrests so far. On November 30, 2025, Harpreet Singh Gulati was arrested and interrogated on remand. About five days ago, the VB filed an 11,000-page chargesheet against Gulati, detailing his financial dealings with Majithia.
The Vigilance Bureau’s extensive 40,000-page chargesheet, filed on August 22, 2025, also lists over 200 witnesses and investigates alleged illicit assets worth around Rs 700 crore across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. The case traces its roots to a 2013 ED investigation into a Rs 6,000 crore synthetic drug racket, in which Majithia’s name had surfaced. Although drug-related charges were later dropped, the current case focuses on corruption and money laundering allegations.
