Gurdwara Amb Sahib land deal row: SGPC suspends manager over alleged illegal sale in Mohali

PTC Web Desk: A controversy has surfaced over the alleged illegal sale of 44 marla land belonging to Gurdwara Amb Sahib, located in Saini Majra, Phase 8, Mohali. Following the revelations, Gurdwara Amb Sahib manager Rajinder Singh Tohra has been suspended with immediate effect, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) confirmed on Wednesday.

The SGPC has also approached the Mohali Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) and Tehsildar to seek cancellation of the land registry and mutation related to the disputed transaction.

To probe the matter thoroughly, the SGPC has constituted a special committee to investigate the entire case. SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said strict action would be taken against anyone found involved in the alleged irregularities and assured that no one would be spared.

Speaking on the issue, SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said the matter came to their notice on Monday, following which an immediate inquiry was initiated. During the preliminary probe, the manager allegedly admitted to selling the land.

Advocate Dhami stated that the land was sold to four persons and that the manager also accepted that he had prepared an SGPC letter on his own, without authorisation.

Funds not deposited in SGPC account

The SGPC’s flying squad visited Mohali to examine the case. During the inquiry, it emerged that the sale proceeds were not deposited in the SGPC’s official account. Instead, Rs 1.32 crore was transferred to the manager’s personal bank account, raising serious concerns over financial misconduct.

Villagers demand high-level probe

Earlier, local residents Satwinder Singh, Manpreet Singh, Sukhvir Singh, and Randhir Singh had written a letter to the SGPC president, SAD Mohali constituency in-charge Parvinder Singh Sohana, and SGPC member advocate Parmjit Kaur Landran.

In their complaint, they alleged that no public advertisement or open auction was conducted before the land sale. They claimed that if a transparent auction had been held, the land could have fetched Rs 15 to Rs 20 crore. The complainants demanded a high-level investigation and immediate cancellation of the land registry.

The SGPC has maintained that the investigation is ongoing and assured that appropriate legal and disciplinary action would follow once the inquiry is completed.
