In the Tarn Taran Assembly constituency, Block Samiti elections will be held across five zones. For four Zila Parishad seats, Aam Aadmi Party candidates have been declared elected unopposed after the nomination papers of candidates from other parties were rejected.


In the district, Block Samiti elections will be held in 67 zones, while Zila Parishad elections will take place at seven locations.

In Amritsar district, a total of 444 candidates are in the fray for 195 seats of the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti.


Across the district, 1,191 polling booths have been set up for voting, of which 466 have been declared sensitive and 80 as highly sensitive. To conduct the polling process smoothly, 11,500 personnel have been deployed.


In Amritsar district, there are 24 Zila Parishad seats, out of which three candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party have already been declared elected unopposed. Meanwhile, in 10 blocks, out of the total 195 Block Samiti seats, 61 have been won unopposed by AAP candidates and one by a Congress candidate. For the remaining 133 seats, 378 candidates are in the contest.


In the district, seven strong rooms and seven counting centres have been set up.

Zila Parishad and Block Samiti polls continues in Punjab

A total of 357 seats of 23 Zila Parishads and 2,838 seats of 153 Block Samiti are undergoing polls. 860 polling stations declared hyper-sensitive and 3,405 sensitive. 44,000 security personnel have been deployed for polls.

PTC News Desk: All preparations have been completed for the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Punjab, which will be held on December 14.


Polling will begin at 8 am and continue till 4 pm using ballot papers, while counting of votes is scheduled for December 17. Around 1.36 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes, with more than 19,000 polling booths set up across rural areas of the state.


The elections will be held for 347 Zila Parishad zones and 2,838 zones of 153 Panchayat Samitis. Officials said 860 polling stations have been marked as highly sensitive, while about 3,400 have been classified as sensitive.


Nearly 44,000 police personnel will be deployed to maintain law and order during polling. The State Election Commission, Punjab, said election and police observers have been appointed and assured that the polls will be conducted in a fair and transparent manner.


All major political parties — the Aam Aadmi Party, Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal and the BJP — are contesting the Zila Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections- which are likely to pave way for 2027 assembly elections in Punjab.
