PTC News Desk: A Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) delegation met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Friday over the murder of Parvinder Singh Jhota, who was killed while fighting against drug abuse in Punjab.

Led by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal, the delegation submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding the dismissal of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Dr Daljit Singh Cheema and Balwinder Singh Bhundar were also part of the delegation.

Referring to Jhota’s murder, Badal said Jhota had lost his life for raising his voice against drugs. He questioned who had issued a licence to the person who allegedly fired the shots. He also demanded that the Gulzar Singh Wala case be brought under the scope of the CBI investigation into the matter.

Badal said the government should take responsibility for supporting Jhota’s family. He demanded a Class-I government job for Jhota’s wife and financial assistance of ₹2 crore for the family. He added that the people of Punjab stood with the family.

Badal also questioned the anti-drug committee led by the Chief Minister, saying the government needed to take the drug menace seriously. He further accused the Punjab government of colluding with drug smugglers.

Taking a dig at the Chief Minister over his foreign visits, Badal said such trips should aim to attract investment to Punjab rather than serve as opportunities for leisure.

He also criticised the government over the short duration of the Punjab Assembly session, questioning what could be expected from a session that lasted only a few minutes.
