PTC News Desk: A routine lottery ticket turned into a life-changing experience after a 28-year-old Punjab Police constable from Ferozepur won the Rs 7-crore first prize in the Rakhi Bumper Draw.
Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Malwal Kadiam village in Ferozepur district, joined the Punjab Police as a constable in 2022 and is currently posted on 112 duty, responding to emergency calls seeking police assistance.
He bought the ticket during his routine visit to the city, however it turned to be an unexpected event for him after he won the bumper prize. The winning triggered trail of celebrations across his village with friends and relatives turning up to congratulate him.
“It is nothing short of a dream come true. I had purchased the lottery ticket routinely when I had gone to the city. I never imagined that this ticket would bring me a Rs 7-crore windfall,” Gurpreet said.
Gurpreet comes from a humble background. His father, Darshan Singh, worked as a train guard with the Railways before retiring in 2019. Gurpreet is one of four children and has two married sisters and a brother.
Gurpreet found out about his life-changing win while he was doing sewa at Gurdwara Vajidpur Sahib on Sunday morning. It was there that he learned that his lottery ticket had won the first prize.
The win also brought a wave of excitement to the lottery shop that sold the winning ticket. Trilok Singh, owner of N K Agency at Udham Singh Chowk, along with his staff, has been celebrating since discovering that their ticket had won the bumper prize.
“This is the first time someone from this border town has won such a big lottery prize,” Trilok Singh said.
