22-year-old law student found hanging inside hostel room at Panjab University
PTC News Desk: A 22-year-law student was found hanging in his hostel room at Boys’ Hostel No. 4 on Saturday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Chaitanya Singh, a native of Haryana, who was a fifth year BCom LLB student at the University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS). He had gone home for the Raksha Bandhan and returned hostel later in the evening.
Singh was found hanging from ceiling by one of the fellow students. He later alerted the warden about the incident.

A university official said, “He was found hanging from the ceiling fan by one of the fellow students. The university security staff rushed him to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, from where he was referred to the PGIMER. However, he was declared dead by a team of doctors.”
Soon after receiving the information, police reached the spot and cordoned off the area. Forensic teams also examined the spot. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
The cause behind this tragic step has not been ascertained yet.
Chaitanya's friends said that he was under severe distress and was facing family-related issues. Vice-Chancellor Prof Meenakshi Goyal expressed grief over Chaitanya’s death and conveyed her condolences to his family, friends and fellow students.
The incident comes days before Panjab University student elections are scheduled to take place.
This is the second tragedy that took place on the campus. Earlier, a PhD scholar died of alleged electrocution while crossing waterlogged stretch near Girls Hostel. The incident had triggered protests, with students accusing the university administration of negligence.
