'Secretariat to Satauj': Punjab employees announce mass leave on September 8, vow to intensify protest against govt
PTC News Desk: Punjab government employees have issued an ultimatum to AAP govt till September 7 to resolve their issued and address their demands including DA. The organisations have warned the government of intensifying their agitation if the issues go unaddressed.
The decision was taken during a meeting in Ludhiana, where they also finalised plans for their next phase of protests. They further warned that if the notices against the employees are not withdrawn by September 7, employees will observe a mass leave on September 8.
‘A government formed through social media will be removed through social media’
Employee leaders accused the AAP government of relying heavily on social media to come to power and said they would now use the same platform to run a campaign against the government.
They also opposed the show-cause notices issued to employees by the government. The leaders warned that employees would strongly oppose the action and intensify their agitation.
No employee participation in ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian’
The leaders announced that no government employee would participate in ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian’, which is scheduled to begin in Bathinda on September 5.
They said employees would ensure that the sports event becomes unsuccessful. They also announced that alleged irregularities related to projects associated with ‘Khedan Vatan Punjab Dian’ would be brought to light.
The employee organisations have named their campaign ‘Bhagwant Mann’s Return from the Secretariat to Satauj’. As part of the next phase, employees will gherao the residences of Punjab government ministers on September 12 and 13. They have also announced plans to protest outside the homes of MLAs on September 19 and 20.
Employees have further warned of a two-day mass leave on October 21 and 22.
The organisations also announced a major rally in Sangrur on October 10. Before that, on September 30, all 117 MLAs and ministers will be invited outside the Punjab Assembly and urged to sit down with employees for discussions.
The leaders said the government and elected representatives should take the employees’ demands seriously and hold direct talks with them to resolve the issues.
