iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max Made in India: Apple ramps up production ahead of global launch

PTC Web Desk: Apple is stepping up iPhone production in India as it gets ready for the global launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The company’s manufacturing units in India are reportedly working around the clock to produce and ship the new premium iPhone models before sales begin globally on Friday.

According to a report by The Economic Times, several chartered flights carrying iPhones have already departed from Chennai. More flights could be arranged in the coming days, with a large share of the devices expected to be sent to the US.

Sources cited in the report said Apple has been moving large shipments of iPhones by chartered aircraft ahead of the launch. The company is also increasing production of the Pro models to ensure they are available in key markets from the first day of sales.

First time for India-made Pro models

The launch will be significant for Apple's India operations. It will be the second year in a row that iPhones made in India are expected to reach customers on the first day of global sales.

However, this is reportedly the first time India-made Pro and Pro Max models will be available from the beginning of sales.

Last year, India-made iPhone 17 models were available at launch, while the Pro versions arrived later.

Apple is not currently producing its first foldable iPhone, reportedly called the iPhone Duo, in India.

Since the Pro and Pro Max models make up only a relatively small share of iPhone sales in India, industry experts cited by The Economic Times estimate that around 80-90% of the locally produced units could be exported.

Apple expands its India manufacturing base

Apple has been steadily increasing its manufacturing presence in India.

A Bloomberg report published in March said the company increased iPhone production in India by about 53% last year. India now accounts for roughly a quarter of Apple's flagship iPhone production, according to the report.

The country has also become a major hub for Apple's iPhone exports, particularly as the company looks to reduce its dependence on manufacturing in China.

Government data cited by Bloomberg showed that Apple's iPhone exports from India to the US rose sharply, from around $7 billion in 2024 to $19.2 billion in 2025.

Apple is also focusing on the Indian market itself. Its sales in the country have crossed $9 billion, while its retail network has expanded to six stores.

The company is also reportedly preparing to introduce Apple Pay in India later this year.
