Diljit Dosanjh gets a message from CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke: Treat me like your younger brother
CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke says he was hurt by Diljit Dosanjh’s June remark but still admires him. Read his message and what Diljit said at the Delhi concert
PTC Web Desk: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leader Abhijeet Dipke has sent a warm message to Diljit Dosanjh, days after the singer’s big Delhi concert. He also spoke openly about a remark from June that had upset him.
In his post, Dipke told the singer that his respect for him has not changed. He said the hurt came from a place of love, not anger. According to him, he had always seen Diljit as someone who stands up for causes and that is why the comment stung.
“Paaji, I was a little hurt by your comment,” Dipke wrote, making it clear he had nothing against Diljit personally.
He also shared that he had watched Diljit perform live in Chicago in May, just before coming back to India. He said he went because he admires the person behind the music. He praised the singer’s honesty, his courage and the way he has taken Punjabi music to the world without losing his roots.
Dipke ended the note in a very desi style. He asked Diljit to forget the matter and treat him like a younger brother. He signed off with a line from one of Diljit’s own songs.
What was the June controversy?
The issue goes back to June, when the CJP was protesting at Jantar Mantar over exam irregularities and the NEET paper leak. During an Instagram Live, a fan asked Diljit if he would join the protest. He said no and added that he is an artist and not a politician. He told fans to keep him out of it. He also quoted a line from Guru Granth Sahib about suffering in the world and finding peace through God’s name. He congratulated both the protesters and the people they were protesting for, saying he did not know much about the matter.
That answer did not go down well with some people. Many expected him to back the students, especially since he had openly supported farmers during the 2020 agitation against the farm laws, which were later repealed.
Diljit’s reply at the Delhi show
The topic came up again on Friday at the first show of Diljit’s seven-city Aura India Tour at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Speaking to the crowd, he said Punjabis do not need lessons on how to fight for a cause.
He also brought up the film on human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra and said it took a long fight to get it made. He added that he prefers to stay calm and spread love, even towards people who dislike him.
Diljit also said the police action at the Jantar Mantar protest was wrong, and that the authorities should listen to the students’ demands.
A show full of music and a few hiccups
The concert had Diljit’s popular Punjabi hits, lasers, a drone show and plenty of chatting with fans. It started late because of rain and other logistical problems. Some fans also had to wait in long lines outside the stadium because of delays in handing out entry wristbands.
The night ended with the words “I’m an artist, bro” lighting up the screens, a nod to his reply during the controversy. Another display read “Main Hoon Punjab.”
