Felt like he was watching me: Diljit Dosanjh reminisces emotional moment from Chamkila trailer launch
In a heartfelt discussion with Netflix, Diljit spoke about how the world rarely recognises greatness while it is still breathing.
PTC News Desk: Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh who portrayed Amar Singh Chamkila shared his emotional journey of taking the role and described what this honour means to him.
In a heartfelt discussion with Netflix, Diljit spoke about how the world rarely recognises greatness while it is still breathing. He said, “Every artist has to face all kinds of difficulties in life, and until he dies, people never call him great. They never get the love they deserve.”
“I’m here for Chamkila. Chamkila gave me the chance to do his biopic, Chamkila gave me the opportunity to live his character on screen, and whatever real moments he went through in his life, even if only for a few seconds, I felt them myself. So I’m here for Chamkila, and that’s all I want to remember, and I want to thank Chamkila wherever he is for giving me the chance to do his biopic," Diljit said, his voice brimming with gratitude.
Diljit also shared a particularly emotional moment when he first watched the trailer. “The first time I saw the trailer of Amar Singh Chamkila was backstage on the day of the trailer launch. There was a shot in the film where I had to sit in the field, turn around, look at the camera and smile, but when I saw that shot in the trailer, where my character of Chamkila turned around and looked at me, I felt like Chamkila himself was watching me and smiling. That got me very emotional; I could actually feel Chamkila’s presence there."
Starring Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra, Amar Singh Chamkila made its way to Emmy Nominations, marking a major milestone. The film traced Chamkila’s rise to fame, the controversies surrounding his songs, and the tragic assassination of both Chamkila and Amarjot in 1988.
