Morning walk turns horrific as pet dog mauls woman, gets more than 50 stiches
PTC Web Desk: A routine morning walk turned traumatic for a woman in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout after she was viciously attacked by a pet dog on January 26. The incident occurred around 6.54 am in Teachers’ Colony, close to the victim’s residence.
The police said the dog, owned by a local resident identified as Amaresh Reddy, allegedly lunged at the woman without warning. The animal reportedly bit her multiple times, inflicting serious injuries to her neck, face, arms and legs. Due to the severity of the wounds, she was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Doctors treating the woman confirmed that she suffered deep bite wounds and required extensive surgical care. Medical reports indicate that more than 50 stitches were needed, particularly on her face and neck. She remains hospitalised and under close medical observation.
During the incident, a passerby attempted to rescue the woman but was also bitten by the dog. While officials have not released details about the extent of the bystander’s injuries, the police confirmed that the individual also received medical treatment.
Following the attack, the woman’s husband lodged a formal complaint with the HSR Layout Police Station, accusing the dog owner of negligence. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Authorities are currently examining CCTV footage from the area, recording witness statements and assessing whether safety norms related to pet ownership were violated. Police officials said further legal action would be decided after the probe is completed.
The incident has triggered anxiety among residents of the locality, with many raising concerns over pet control, leash rules and accountability of owners in densely populated residential areas.
