ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023: Match officials' roaster revealed for League Round

16 umpires will officiate the 13th edition of the tournament, including all 12 of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires and four members of the ICC Emerging Umpire Panel

ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the list of 20 match officials who will officiate during the League Round of the highly anticipated ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

The 13th edition of this cricketing spectacle will witness 16 umpires, consisting of all 12 members of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires and four from the ICC Emerging Umpire Panel. The distinguished umpires selected for this prestigious tournament are Chris Brown, Kumar Dharmasena, Marais Erasmus, Chris Gaffaney, Michael Gough, Adrian Holdstock, Richard Illingworth, Richard Kettleborough, Nitin Menon, Ahsan Raza, Paul Reiffel, Sharfuddoula Ibne Shaid, Rod Tucker, Alex Wharf, Joel Wilson, and Paul Wilson.


Notably, among these seasoned umpires, three are veterans of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, having officiated the final of the 2019 edition at Lord's. The trio includes Kumar Dharmasena, Marais Erasmus, and Rod Tucker. Aleem Dar, the fourth umpire from the 2019 final, has stepped down from the Elite Panel in March of this year.

The Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees will also play a crucial role in this cricketing extravaganza. The panel includes former international cricketers Jeff Crowe, Andy Pycroft, Richie Richardson, and Javagal Srinath.


Javagal Srinath has the distinct honor of overseeing the tournament opener, which will feature a clash between the finalists from the previous edition, England and New Zealand. This highly anticipated match is scheduled for October 5th in Ahmedabad. Nitin Menon and Kumar Dharmasena will serve as the standing umpires, with Paul Wilson as the TV umpire and Saikat taking on fourth umpire duties.

It's important to note that the match officials have been designated for the League segment of the tournament, with the selection for the semi-finals and final yet to be announced.

In a statement issued by ICC General Manager Wasim Khan, he stated, "To deliver an event of this magnitude you require high performing individuals at every level. The ICC Elite panel of umpires, referees, and emerging group of umpires involved will bring immense skills, experience and world class standards to this World Cup. We are delighted with the group that we have assembled for this tournament."

Sean Easey, ICC Manager – Umpires and Referees, also shared his thoughts, saying, "We are pleased to announce the match officials who will be overseeing the biggest ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup ever. This group is the best from around the world and will be ready to perform a challenging job, with the eyes of the global cricketing community focused on the event."

With this lineup of experienced and skilled match officials, the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 promises to be a cricketing extravaganza to remember, with fans around the world eagerly anticipating the action on the field.
