T20 World Cup 2024: Rishabh Pant could take over as India's vice-captain, says a report by Cricbuzz. The development follows the keeper-batter's impressive leadership and performance for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Pant made an amazing comeback in IPL 2024 after missing the previous season due to a near-fatal car accident in December 2022.

Hardik Pandya to be sacked?

Hardik Pandya has struggled in the current tournament as both a batter and a bowler, with many critics questioning his ability to lead the star-studded Mumbai Indians team. According to the report, Pant has an advantage over Hardik in the contest to be Rohit Sharma's deputy in the T20 World Cup 2024 due to their present form.

According to the report, BCCI selectors will meet on May 1st to select the T20 World Cup 2024 team, and they may consider taking Hardik Pandya's vice-captaincy and handing it to Rishabh Pant instead. He will be given the task again, having already performed the role before to his injury.

Hardik Pandya was the Indian team's vice-captain in the ICC World Cup 2023 and was set to play the same role in the T20 World Cup 2024. However, Rishabh Pant's ability may pose a danger to him, and the keeper-batsman might act as Rohit Sharma's deputy in the tournament. Rishabh Pant captained India's T20I series against South Africa, which ended in a draw.

Expected team members

According to the report, Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav will be the top four players. Pant's name is expected to grab the gloves, while Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will be both all-rounders.

Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh are likely selections, but only one of Sanju Samson or KL Rahul will make the squad. Yuzvendra Chahal is expected to miss out, while Kuldeep Yadav will be the main spinner, while Axar Patel is slated to replace Ravi Bishnoi in the lineup.

The team's pacers are Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh. Sandeep Sharma might also be considered. It would be up to skipper Rohit Sharma to decide whether the squad needs four pacers. Also, it is unclear whether Shubman Gill will be a part of the team.
