IPL 2024: Virat Kohli fined 50 per cent match fees during RCB vs KKR, know why

 Virat Kohli fined : The Board of Control for Cricket in India fined 50 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the clash between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. 

The official statement reads, "Kohli committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding." 


It added that Kohli committed a level one offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. The statement further added that the 35-year-old admitted to the offence.

In the third over of the second inning when KKR bowler Harshit Rana dismissed the former RCB skipper. Following that, Virat referred the decision to the third umpire.

However, after going over the replays, the third umpire upheld the on-field decision, giving him out. Furious at being adjudged out, Virat was seen remonstrating on the field and started walking off in anger as the Knights rejoiced.

Notably, RCB, led by Faf Du Plessis, opted to field after winning the toss. Despite Phil Salt's quickfire 48, KKR posted a challenging 222/6. RCB's Cameron Green and Yash Dayal claimed two wickets each, but conceded runs. In response, RCB lost early wickets but a partnership between Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar revived hopes. Andre Russell and Sunil Narine's spells turned the tide. Despite Karn Sharma's late blitz, RCB fell agonizingly short by a run, ending at 221/10. Russell's all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match. KKR's win propelled them to second place, while RCB languishes at the bottom of the table.
