US Capitol on lockdown due to external security threat

Two days before inauguration of Joe Biden as the US President, a lockdown has been imposed in the US Capitol complex in the wake of external security threat.

Meanwhile, no one is allowed either to enter or exit the US Capitol complex by the National Guard deployed at the seat of the US government's Executive branch.

Capitol Police said that the US Capitol has been shut down temporarily out of an abundance of caution after a fire broke out near the complex.

US Secret Service stated that "Public safety and law enforcement responded to a small fire in the area of 1st and F streets SE, Washington, DC that has been extinguished. Out of an abundance of caution the US Capitol complex was temporarily shutdown. There is no threat to the public."

US Capitol Under Brief Lockdown Over Fire 2 Days Before Biden Inauguration

The Capitol building in Washington DC is locked to contain a security threat, two days before Joe Biden's inauguration as the US president.

The Capitol, home to the US Congress, was recently attacked by a pro-Trump supporters on January 6, in which five people were dead.

Washington on lockdown as security threats mount

As per the report, an emergency announcement was playing while a rehearsal for Biden's inauguration has been suspended.

The security has been beefed up with thousands of National Guard members deployed to avoid any untoward situation.

An alert has been issued to the Capitol staff stating that the complex was on lockdown, with no-one being allowed in or out.

The FBI has also warned of possible armed marches by pro-Trump mob across state capitols.
