Amritsar: A massive fire broke out at the government-run Guru Nanak Dev Hospital here on Saturday, said police. However, no casualty was reported, they said. Nearly ten fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the fire.A blast took place in the transformer near the hospital OPD that led to the fire, which engulfed cardiology, X-ray and dermatology departments. Arriving here today to review the work, the Cabinet Minister for Power and Public Works Harbhajan Singh ETO said that he had yesterday briefed the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann about the incident as per the suggestion made by the engineers to meet the electrical needs of the hospital. He had proposed to install two dry transformers of 500 KV, which he accepted immediately and these transformers reached the hospital this morning. He said that it was the largest hospital in Punjab and the number of doctors, nurses, para medical staff and inpatients was more than 10,000 at any given time, so we could not in any way jeopardize our capital. He said that the transformers being installed now were one without oil and would be installed away from the hospital building so that there would be no danger of fire at all.
