An Army jawan has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself to death with his service rifle in Trikuta nagar of Jammu and Kashmir.

"A jawan, namely Sandeep Singh , resident of Maur in Bathinda district posted with the 17 rashtriya rifles on Tuesday , shot himself with his service rifle while on duty," police here said on Saturday.

His colleagues rushed to the scene and evacuated him to a nearby medical facility where he was declared brought dead.

Meanwhile, the police have initiated Inquest proceedings in connection with the incident.
