Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee to provide insurance to devotees

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), June 15: The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has decided to provide insurance of Rs 1 lakh to the devotees in case of any kind of accident that happens with them on the temple premises of Chardham located in Uttarakhand. The Char Dam Yatra has claimed the lives of 91 pilgrims since it began on May 3, according to the Yatra's officials. The major cause of death, according to Uttarakhand Director-General of Health Shailja Bhatt, was a "heart attack." The increased deployment of 169 doctors on the Chardham Yatra route was also announced by officials on Wednesday. Meanwhile, on June 5, a bus carrying pilgrims from Panna district in Madhya Pradesh fell into a deep gorge en route to the Yamunotri temple in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, killing 26 people and injuring four others, according to officials. There were 28 passengers on board, including the driver and the helper. On May 30, a private aviation company's helicopter made an uncontrolled hard landing while landing at the Kedarnath helipad. Also Read | UAE to suspend exports of Indian wheat for four months: Reports According to the Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, nearly 19 lakh devotees joined in the Char Dham Yatra on Sunday (June 12), with a total of 19,04,253 pilgrims arriving in Uttarakhand Chardham. As many as 6,57,547 pilgrims arrived at Badrinath Dham from May 8 to June 11 evening, while 6,33,548 pilgrims arrived at Kedarnath Dham from May 6 to June 11 evening. On May 11, the Uttarakhand government declared that the number of pilgrims to Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath would be increased by 1,000 each. In a single day, 16,000 devotees can visit Badrinath and 13,000 can have 'darshan' of the deity at Kedarnath Dham, respectively, while 8,000 and 5,000 pilgrims can visit Gangotri and Yamunotri Dhams. The Gangotri-Yamunotri Dham's doors opened on May 3, while Kedarnath and Badrinath's portals opened on May 6 and 8, respectively. This year's Yatra registrations have also set a new record, with more than 10 lakh pilgrims registering.
