Balwant Multani case: Mohali court issues arrest warrant against Sumedh Saini

A Mohali court on Saturday issued arrest warrant against the former Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in the Balwant Multani abduction and murder case. The order has been issued by Judicial Magistrate 1st Class (Duty), SAS Nagar. It directed the SHO PS Mataur, SAS Nagar to arrest him and produce him in court on/or before September 25, 2020. The order has been issued under Sections 364, 201, 344, 330, 219, 120 B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Sumedh Saini continues to remain elusive despite the efforts by the special investigation team (SIT) of the Punjab Police which conducted raids at several places to nab him. Saini was booked in May in connection with the disappearance of Balwant Singh Multani in 1991 while he was working as a junior engineer with Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Corporation. The high court also dismissed Saini’s second petition seeking quashing of an FIR in the case or the transfer of the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). -PTC News
