BJP national president Amit Shah reaches Chandigarh for a 2 hour long meeting with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patriarch Parkash Singh Badal and his son Sukhbir Badal on Thursday afternoon as part of the party’s attempt to reach out to allies ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Shah arrived at Chandigarh International Airport at 1.15pm, as per reports.
He will be meeting veteran athlete Milkha Singh & hockey player Balbir Singh senior at their respective residence as a part of BJP's initiative 'Sampark se Samarthan.'
BJP’s Punjab president Shwait Malik will also be a part of the meeting.
“It is part of the party president’s ongoing ‘Sampark for Samarthan’ (contact for support) nationwide campaign and has nothing to do with recent Lok Sabha bypolls results,” said Shwait Malik on Wednesday.
‘It’s a routine meeting with the Akali leaders said,’ SAD leader Diljeet Singh Cheema.
Pitching for strengthening the NDA in a “war-like situation”, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal on Wednesday said all alliance partners must settle their differences to ensure victory in the general elections next year.
According to Badal, the BJP and the SAD are ‘natural allies’. “It is not a relation of give and take,” he said.
