Canada will witness the longest Blood Moon of 21st century this Friday!
Canada will witness the longest lunar eclipse of 21st century this Friday! This Friday night, be ready to witness a phenomenal site with the magical red blood moon staying the longest in over a century now! The Moon will pass through the Earth’s shadow and will colour the moon red for more than 100 minutes, as per information by NASA. The moon will be the farthest and smallest full moon of the year and it will produce the longest total lunar eclipse that you might not get a chance to witness again. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth moves directly between the sun and the moon. Earth’s shadow covers the moon, blocking the sunlight that usually reflects off its surface, giving it a reddish-orange glow. The bodies are aligned in a straight line in the order of the sun, Earth and a full moon. The total lunar eclipse where the Moon will appear completely red, will last for 103 minutes. There isn’t slated to be another total lunar eclipse that long until the year 2123. "The Moon is not always in perfect alignment with the Sun and the Earth, so that is why we do not get a lunar eclipse every lunar cycle. You will see the sunrise and sunset of the Earth lighting up the surface of the Moon -- over 350,000 km away. If you were on the Moon, you would see a total solar eclipse as the Earth would be blocking the Sun," Brad Tucker, an astronomer with the Australian National University's Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics told reports.
