CBI takes over investigation in Hathras rape case, registers case against an accused
The CBI spokesperson RK Gaur said that a case has been registered by the CBI on request of the Uttar Pradesh Government and further notification from the Government of India.
An FIR has been registered against the accused Sandip Singh under Indian Penal Code (IPC) Sections 307 for an attempt to murder, 302 for murder, and 376-D for gang rape. Also, the FIR includes Section 3 of the SC/ST Act for atrocities against a scheduled caste woman.

The CBI team will visit the crime scene in Hathras along with forensic experts on Sunday itself. The team had already asked the local police officials to collect the documents related to the Hathras rape case and hand them over at the earliest.
The team will also talk to the three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) chaired by UP’s home secretary Bhagwan Swaroop Srivastava to collect the evidence and their findings. It may be recalled that the SIT had started its probe in the case on October 1.
On Saturday, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) had accepted the Uttar Pradesh government’s recommendation for CBI in Hathras rape case.
The Centre issued a notification in this regard. The investigating teams will be dispatched to the crime scene along with forensic experts after the registration of an FIR, it added.
On September 14, an FIR was lodged following the complaint of the Hathras rape victim's brother at Chandpa police station. The complainant mentioned that the accused tried to strangle his sister in a field.
The Hathras rape victim had later succumbed to her injuries during treatment at a Delhi hospital on September 29.
