Sukhna Lake floodgates opened for record tenth time this monsoon season
PTC News Desk: The floodgates of Sukhna Lake were opened for record tenth time this monsoon season after incessant rainfall. The floodgate was opened as the water level reached near the danger mark of 1,163 feet.
According to officials, the floodgate was opened around 12.30 pm am and closed around 3.30 pm as the water level dropped to nearly 1,162. 30 ft.
Earlier, the floodgates were opened on September 3, 1, August 30, 29, 19, 17, 15, 8 and 6.
Several officials from UT Engineering Department have been deployed at the regulatory end of the lake on a 24/7 basis and CCTVs have also been installed to continuously monitor the water level of the lake.
A control room has also been established to coordinate with the district administrations of Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula for proper communication during the opening of floodgates.
