The total number of coronavirus (COVID 19) cases in India has increased to 1,31,868 after 6,767 new positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours, as of Sunday morning. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the death toll has increased to 3,867 after 147 new deaths were reported from the country in the last 24 hours.
The Health Ministry was quoted by news agency ANI as saying: “Highest-ever spike of 6,767 COVID-19 cases and 147 deaths in India in the last 24 hours. The total number of cases in the country now at 1,31,868, including 73,560 active cases, 54,440 cured and discharged and 3,867 death.”
Maharashtra continues to remain the worst-affected state in the country with over 47,190 COVID-19 cases, followed by Tamil Nadu at 15,512, Gujarat at 13,664, and Delhi at 12,910. To contain the spread of coronavirus in India, the nationwide lockdown has been imposed since March 25 as a precautionary measure. The lockdown has been extended till May 31.
Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus cases across the globe has surged to 5,407,378, including 344,019 deaths and 2,247,930 recovered patients. The US is on the top with over 1,666,828 out of which 98,683 patients have died due to the pandemic. Likewise, Brazil in on the second with over 349,113 cases followed by Russia at 335,882, Spain at 282,370, and the UK at 257,154.
