Coronavirus positive cases in India rise to 96,169; death toll 3,029

The total number of coronavirus (COVID 19) cases in India has spiked to 96,169 after the highest-ever spike of 5,242 positive cases were reported in the last 24 hours, as of Monday morning. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the death toll has increased to 3,029 after 157 new deaths were reported from the country in the last 24 hours. The Health Ministry was quoted by news agency ANI as saying: "Highest ever spike of 5,242 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. A total number of positive cases in India is now at 96,169, including 56,316 active cases, 36,824 cured and discharged cases while the death toll is 3,029." The development comes a day after the nationwide lockdown, imposed as a measure to contain the spread of coronavirus, was extended till May 31. https://twitter.com/ANI/status/1262229648793980930 Meanwhile, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state due to the novel coronavirus with 33,053 cases, including 1,198 deaths, followed by Gujarat at 11,379, Tamil Nadu at 11,224 and Delhi at 10,054.
