Councillor Gurpreet Dhillon leads delegation for more university program funding BRAMPTON, ON – At the Association of Municipalities Ontario conference in Ottawa on Sunday, August 13th, Councillor Gurpreet Dhillon led a delegation requesting the Ministry of Research, Innovation & Science for funding opportunities for Research & Development for the city’s new university, and to begin the negotiations as soon as possible. Speaking directly to the Parliamentary Assistant, MPP Daiene Vernille, Councillor Dhillon conveyed the importance of investing in Brampton. “Investing in Research & Development in Brampton will create an opportunity to drive significant growth in our city,” said Councillor Dhillon, indicating the city’s plans to become a “global hub for research and innovation.” “Along with my June 2016 motion to increase Brampton’s job forecast by up to 25,000 more jobs, this university will be a game changer. The greater investment it receives, the greater the economic impact it will have, including the creation of higher end jobs for our residents.” Notes: -The City of Brampton lies directly in the centre of the new ‘Innovation Super Corridor’, spanning from Toronto to Waterloo, which is part the Province of Ontario’s plan to create a global innovation, science, and research hub. -Ryerson University was selected as Brampton’s university candidate in March 2017, and a location will be announced by the Province in Fall 2017. —PTC News
