Covid norms go for a toss at Navjot Singh Sidhu's installation ceremony; FIR lodged

Following a meeting between Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and the newly appointed Navjot Singh Sidhu, the police on Friday evening registered a case in connection with the violation of Covid norms under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code. It may be recalled that Captain Amarinder Singh had invited Navjot Singh Sidhu and other leaders on a tea that was attended by a large number of Congress leaders on Friday. A police official said that during the meeting Covid norms were blatantly violated as social distancing was not maintained. The police official further said that a crowd gathered on the spot despite Section 144 being imposed in the state. However, no one has been named in the case. Navjot Singh Sidhu on Friday took charge as Punjab Congress’ President in the presence of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, ending months-long bitter infight. It was for the first time in nearly four months that both Sidhu and Captain met each other. -PTC News
