Cyclone ‘Yaas’ is very likely to move north-north-westwards and intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm during the next 12 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Tuesday. The Cyclone would continue to move north-north-westwards and intensify further to reach Northwest Bay of Bengal near north Odisha and West Bengal coasts, very close to Chandbali-Dhamra port, by the early morning of Wednesday, May 26. Cyclone Yaas is likely to cross north Odisha-West Bengal coasts between Paradip and Sagar Island around Balasore, during noon of Wednesday, May 26, as a very severe cyclonic storm. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department Bhubaneswar said that a red alert has been issued for Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Balasore districts for Tuesday and Wednesday. The highest danger warning has been issued for Dhamra and Paradip ports, it stated. The weather department also said that an orange alert has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khorda, and Puri for Tuesday. Cyclone ‘Yaas’ is very likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm during next 12 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department said. In these districts, heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted with wind speeds of 150-160kmph gusting 180kmph. Cyclone Yaas is likely to make landfall by the afternoon on Wednesday.
