Delhi Air Hostess Commits Suicide In Hauz Khas, Family Says Dowry Harassment

Delhi air hostess commits suicide in Hauz Khas, family says dowry harassment A 39-year-old Delhi based air hostess committed suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of her house in south Delhi’s Panchsheel Park on Friday afternoon. The victim’s family alleged that her husband and in-laws had been harassing her for dowry. The victim, 39 years old, was identified as Anissia Batra, daughter of retired Indian Army Major General, she worked for the German airline carrier Lufthansa. A case has been registered at the Hauz Khas police station but the accused is yet to be arrested. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), South, Romil Baaniya said, a case under the section 304B (dowry death) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered with the police. “Singhvi would hit my mother too. Sometimes, my sister would be left locked out of her home,” said the victim’s brother. Two-and-a-half-years-ago, she was married to a software engineer named, Mayank Singhvi. Though the victim’s family claims it to be a murder, the DCP said that messages sent by the woman to her husband moments before her death indicated that it was not a murder. -PTC News
