1 killed as speeding Thar crushes two pedestrians in Delhi, liquor bottles recovered from vehicle
PTC News Desk: A speeding Thar rammed into pedestrians in Delhi's 11 Murti area, killing one person on the spot while leaving the other critically injured on Sunday morning. The vehicle was seized and liquor bottles were recovered from the car, indicating a case of drink and drive.
The incident took place in a high-security zone just 2 km from Rashtrapati Bhavan, near 11 Murti area. A team from Chanakyapuri police station reached the spot and took the 26-year-old Thar driver into custody.
"Around 6.30 in the morning, our patrolling vehicle saw that an accident had happened. The driver's name is Ashish. He is 26 years old. He was going from Gurgaon to Chhatarpur. The car belonged to his friend," New Delhi DCP Devesh Kumar Mahla said, confirming the case.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim was walking along the road whe a speeding car fatally rammed into him. While the other man was critically injured and was immediately rushed to the hospital and is currently undergoing treatment.
As soon as the police along with the forensic teams reached the spot, the driver was taken into the custody and liquor bottles were also recovered. The forensic teams have also initiated the examination as part of the investigation.
The accused driver during the interrogation revealed that he had borrowed the car from a friend and dozed off while driving, resulting in accident. However the recovery of liquor bottles suggests otherwise with a medical examination to be conducted to confirm whether the accused was under the influence of alcohol.
