Election for deputy speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha to take place today
Chandigarh, June 30: The election for deputy speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha will take place on Thursday afternoon after the cabinet meeting.
CM Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government had not appointed a deputy speaker yet.
Earlier, two-time Aam Aadmi Party MLA Kultar Singh Sandwan was unanimously elected as Speaker of the 16th Punjab Legislative Assembly.

The meeting of the Punjab Legislative Assembly is presided over by the Deputy Speaker in the absence of a Speaker. The Deputy Speaker serves as the Vidhan Sabha's vice-presiding official. In the event of the Speaker's death or illness, this officer acts as the presiding officer.
Meanwhile, a meeting of Punjab Cabinet ministers would be held on Thursday before the Vidhan Sabha session. Bhagwant Mann will preside over the meeting, which will take place at the Chief Minister's residence.
The meeting is likely to cover a number of important agendas.
