PTC Web Desk: Kangana Ranaut’s highly anticipated film ‘Emergency’ is set to hit the theatres on January 17, 2025. The actor and BJP MP made the announcement on Monday, sharing the news on her official X page.

This update follows a month after Kangana Ranaut revealed that the film 'Emergency' had finally secured its censor certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The certification came after ‘Emergency’ missed its original release date of September 6.

In the political drama, Kangana Ranaut takes on the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Centered on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the 1975 Emergency, the movie is set to premiere in theatres across the country on January 17, 2025, just ahead of Republic Day.

Announcing the release on X, Ranaut shared a poster of the film, captioned: "17th January 2025 -- The epic saga of the nation's most powerful woman and the moment that altered India's destiny. Emergency - Unveils only in cinemas on 17.01.2025!"

Delays in Release

The journey to the film’s release has faced multiple setbacks. Initially, 'Emergency' was planned for an October-November 2023 debut, later pushed to June 14, 2024. The release was further postponed due to the scheduling of the Lok Sabha Elections, conducted in seven phases. The film was then expected to premiere on September 6, 2024. However, on August 30, Ranaut revealed that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had withheld certification for the movie due to external pressures.

There were also objections from the Sikh community that led the Telangana government to consider a ban. Despite these challenges, on October 17, Ranaut announced that the film had finally received clearance from the CBFC. “We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie Emergency. We will be announcing the release date soon. Thank you for your patience and support,” she wrote on X.

Cast and Storyline

Written and directed by Kangana Ranaut, 'Emergency' chronicles the life of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and the historic events of 1975 during the state of emergency in India. The film’s ensemble cast includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, the late Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhry, Ashok Chhabra, Milind Soman, and Vishak Nair in pivotal roles.

January 2025 Releases

Emergency is set to release ahead of other major films, including Sunny Deol’s 'Lahore 1947' and the Akshay Kumar and Sara Ali Khan-starrer 'Sky Force', both scheduled for January 24, 2025.
