'Matches are being played': Diljit Dosanjh breaks silence over Sardarji 3 row, Pahalgam attack

PTC News Desk: Diljit Dosanjh, the singer-turned-actor, recently spoke about the Pahalgam Terror Attack, the controversy surrounding his film Sardaarji 3 with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, and the India-Pakistan cricket match. Addressing fans during his Malaysia concert, he clarified that Sardaarji 3 had been filmed before the April 22 attack, while the cricket match happened afterward.

In a viral clip from the event, Diljit explained that although he had many things to say, he had chosen to remain silent until now. Seeking permission from the audience, he said, “When my film Sardaarji 3 was shot in February, cricket matches were going on. After that came the tragic Pahalgam terror attack. We have always prayed that those responsible face strict punishment. But the truth is, my film was made before the attack, and the match took place after it.”

"Woh mere desh da jhanda hai (That's my country's flag). Always respect,” he said while saluting the national flag.

He went on to share why he had avoided making public statements for so long. “I have many answers, but I stayed quiet, kept everything to myself. Life has taught me not to take every word people say to heart. That’s why I didn’t respond, though there’s much I could say.”

Earlier this year, Diljit faced heavy criticism over Sardaarji 3 for featuring a Pakistani actor and for its decision to release worldwide but not in India. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) even called for him to be blacklisted and for his Indian citizenship to be revoked, though the order was later withdrawn.

Meanwhile, Diljit has wrapped filming for his next project, Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh. The film stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty, and is scheduled for release on January 23, 2026.
